3 Tips for Maintaining Good Eyesight

How important is your eyesight to you? What would happen to your life as you know it if you lost your eyesight, or it was damaged in some way? It’s likely you would have problems and have to stop doing some of the things you love the most. You might not even be able to work. So, it’s crucial that you do whatever you can to maintain good eyesight and ensure that you can see as well as possible for as long as possible. Read on for some tips on how to do this.

Eat A Balanced Diet

Eating a balanced diet is crucial for a healthy life, and not just in terms of your eyesight. Eating a balanced diet will help you keep your weight in check, ensure strong muscles, improve your immune system, help you sleep better, and will ward off some conditions such as type II diabetes. However, when it comes to your eyes, a healthy diet can certainly help you as well.

When you eat a balanced diet, that means you’re consuming all the vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy. In that case, you’ll be getting enough vitamin A and C, both of which are essential for healthy eyes. These vitamins can be found in many different types of food, but good examples are fish (such as salmon) and leafy green vegetables.

Wear Sunglasses

The sun can cause all kinds of damage, even when it doesn’t feel particularly strong. You might not think that wearing sunglasses in the winter or on a cloudy day is something you need to consider, but the reality is that UV rays can penetrate the earth no matter how gloomy the day might appear. It’s not just on hot, bright days that this is an issue.

Make sure you wear sunglasses every time you go outside during the day. The UV rays from the sun can cause all kinds of problems, including ones that would lead to cataracts and require cataract lenses to put right

While you’re taking care of your eyes in the sun, make sure you do the same for your skin and always wear sunscreen, long-sleeved clothes, and a wide-brimmed hat for the ultimate protection.

Wash Your Hands

Lately, we have all become much more aware of just how important the need to wash our hands is, but there is more to it than protecting ourselves from germs – our eyesight can benefit as well.

You might not touch your eyes very often, but perhaps you rub them eyelids and face near to them when you’re tired, frustrated, stressed, and so on?

If so, you could be spreading germs to your eyes, and that can lead to eye infections. In the worst cases, which can cause permanent damage to your eyes if left untreated. If you wear contact lenses, it’s even more important to regularly wash your hands, and especially when taking them in and out.

If you make it a rule to wash your hands after using the bathroom, after touching any kind of food, after using a keyboard for any length of time, after being outside, and in general once an hour or so to ensure cleanliness, you should be able to prevent the spread of germs.
